InformationWeek: Security Vulnerabilities

12:25 CET, 10th August 2011 By Secunia.

Findings from Secunia’s Half Year Report 2011 form the basis for the article ‘Security Vulnerabilities: Warnings, Patches Released Same Day’. The article focuses on the fact that coordinated disclosures are on the rise, however so are local network attacks and critical vulnerabilities.

Between 2009 and 2011 the prevalence of some types of attacks have been shifting, resulting in the number of vulnerabilities involving remote attacks decreasing and the number of local network attacks increasing.

Stefan Frei, Secunia’s Research Analyst Director confirms; “This is good news…That’s because local network attacks require an attacker to have physical access to targeted systems, meaning they’re harder to execute, and easier to defend against.”  Secunia’s CSO also comments on this topic.
