Hi, I have had to restore my pc back to factory settings, resulting in 100,s of windows updates. After ,never ending updating, I can only achieve 95%, there are 2 end of life threats still there.
1.Macromedia flash player 7 active x.7.0.14.0
2.microsoft office powerpoint viewer 2003. microsoft updates.11.0.8305.0.
Can anyone help me patch these 2 threats and get my 100% back please?
Any help would be most appreciated.

EDIT: U should NOT, under any circumstances, attempt to update any Office Viewer without first removing the old version

I take it we are talking about the free Microsoft Office Viewer? Go to Control Panel>Add/remove & remove it.

Now run a full PSI scan - has that removed the Office problem? If so install the latest Viewer from here:

http://www.microsoft.com/download/en/details.aspx?...

Now run Windows Update to check there are no updates for it.

Once fully updated run another full PSI scan - it should be registered & secure.

To help with Flash I need this information:

FINDING A FILE PATH

From the DASHBOARD page click on SCAN RESULTS.

1. This will list all your programmes with a + to the left of each one.
2. Click the + sign next to the item that U want help with.
3. This will reveal the path under DETECTED INSTANCES.
4. Highlight it then copy (CTRL+C) then paste (CTRL+V)) that path back to the Forum.
OR THIS METHOD WHICH GIVES A HELPER MORE INFORMATION
4a Below DETECTED INSTANCES you will see You can double click this row for additional information & options>double click it>a box will appear>click TROUBLESHOOT REPORT>Now highlight the information revealed from START to END & copy it (CTRL+C) then post it to the Forum (CTRL+V)

The end result U post to the Forum should look like this:
---START---

Program Name:
Apple iTunes 10.x

Security State:

Download Link:
http://appldnld.apple.com/iTunes10/061-9638.201103...

Hi , Thanks for your reply, but you are a little too complicated at present.
1, All I have done is clicked the blue buttons, to no avail, still insecure.
2. Completely uninstalled office, so don,t know why viewer is left. I don,t use it, it was on trial when pc was new,2008. I have just reset system back to factory settings, and am installing all I need, including PSI. Gogle tells me chrome has flash already on,so download of new wasn,t needed. I could not copy & paste the results,a bit complicated, highlighted in blue but wouldn,t copy. Sorry to be so bothersome, but I have been installing Windows updates non stop for 24 hours nearly. All done, just the 2 I posted. I am trying to do as you say, but cannot.

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/290301

Once the page opens scroll down to the Office 2003 Fix It Tool - It is marked 50416.

Activate it & follow any prompts. Once complete do a full PSI rescan - has it removed it?

Hi, I am sorry but this copy and paste just is not working, all I get is it copies and pastes 1 word. I obviously am doing something wrong, I do know how to copy and paste, nothing happens.
I have deleted everything regarding it to the bin , deleted it , and it,s still there.
I click on + then try and copy all that is shown from opened dropdown, it won,t highlight, if I double click again, the path is shown, again it wll Not copy and paste, only 1 word ad infinitum.
What I am doing wrong I don,t know. I appreciate your help, but, the scan gives a button, says windows update in blue.and I thought the idea was to press the button to fix it, but it does not.
I will keep trying to c/p,but unless I write all by hand, I am at a loss;

If U are doing the trouble shoot report correctly all the data required is in a box - put your cursor to the left of START in the report & LEFT click - holding the left click scroll down to END of report. Release the left button.

The text should now be highlighted in blue.

Press CTRL + C

Now come back to the Forum - press the reply button & press CTRL+V

Thank you. I have got the information required. Try this:

DELETING A FILE OR FOLDER USING PSI VERSION 2

To delete a vulnerable file or folder found by PSI try this:

1. Open PSI>Scan results.

2. Against the programme marked as vulnerable is a + sign to the left of it.

3. Click that & it will reveal DETECTED INSTANCES.

4. Below that are two yellow folders. Click the one WITHOUT a red dot.

5. That will open Windows Explorer & U will be able to see the vulnerable file or folder.
c:\programFiles\MicrosoftOffice\Powerpointviewe r\P PTVIEW.EXE

6. Right click on it & select delete.

7. Carry out a full PSI scan & all should be in order.

Hi Maurice 100%.
Did as you said, and I have had that up several times, but there are another 6 files in that box along with the PPTview one. There was no red dot, just ignore the first or open report on the second.it was in the second one.Should I leave the other 6 items alone?
Thanks very much .for your patience.I knew you would solve it as you have in the past for me.

My understanding is that U have uninstalled Microsoft Office completely?

Looks like U still have remnants on your PC.

Would U like help cleaning them up & installing Microsoft Free Office readers so that U can open documents that use Office?

Happy to help if U wish. I have to go out for a few hours to fix a PC. If U want help can U please go to Control Panel>add/remove

I need to know if U can see any entries for Microsoft Office

Word Viewer? Excel Viewer? Microsoft Office Compatibility Pack?

I will respond on my return.

Hi Maurice, that,s very kind. I thought I had uninstalled all of office and students 2003 which came free trial when I purchased the pc 2+ years ago. Having just turned pc back to factory settings, I just uninstalled it again, and assumed it had got rid of all files etc.
Obviously not. Before I restored the pc I had open office on, but now I don,t, so if what you suggest saves me putting that back on, I would be grateful to accept your offer.
The only Micro on pc is
micro net
micro silverlight
micro
visual c + x2005. 2008 x 86.9.0.3. 2008 x 86.9.03
micro works
mxsml 4.0 sp2
msxml 4.0 sp2
There are no other micro programs, office/excel.etc

Thank you

Looks good.

Can U please right click on Start>Open Windows Explorer>then navigate to C>All Programs>can U see a Microsoft Office folder in the left hand pane?

If so right click & delete it. Do not proceed to the downloading/installing of any new readers until this folder (if it exists) is removed.

I note U have Microsoft Works - that is fine so please do not remove that folder in error.

U now require some free readers to enable U to read files created by Microsoft Office users.

The links to install them are here (U may note that I have pointed U to a 32 Bit download sites although U may have a 64 Bit system - this is OK just install from the links I give U)

POWERPOINT

http://www.microsoft.com/download/en/details.aspx?...

WORD

http://www.microsoft.com/download/en/details.aspx?...

EXCEL
http://www.microsoft.com/download/en/details.aspx?...

IMPORTANT

1. Now do a manual Windows Update scan. I have no doubt it will find updates. Any offered must be installed.

2. It may also offer an Office Compatibility Pack. That is OK butIT MUST be installed AFTER U have installed any updates for Word/Excel/PowerPoint.

Now run a full PSI scan.

It should register all your new programmes & they should be secure.

Hope this helps.

1. Just to clear up Windows Explorer - I have not got Vista handy - when U right click on start what options does it give?

2. Are U still putting the Microsoft readers on?

3. Have U got a 100% now Open Office is installed?

Looks like Vista is the same as XP - when U right click on start select Explore All Users.

This will open Windows Explorer for U to search for the Microsoft Folder then follow my script above in trying to find the Microsoft Folder etc.

There is a little confusion sometimes with names. All copies of Microsoft have Windows Internet Explorer (IE) and Windows Explorer embedded as part of the OS

IE is the gateway to the internet.

Windows Explorer is a work area where U can do all sorts of magic things with Windows.

Success Maurice.100% after umpteen more updates. I have spent the last 4 days just updating windows from re-installing. 400 at least.I probably don,t need open office.org now. But can always remove later if not required.

Pleased U are happy with the result.

U can close the thread once U are content all your problems are solved.

A few closing comments U may wish to consider & general information.

1. Your profile.
If U look to the top of this page U will see some grey tabs one of which is marked My Profile. Open that & U will see a box at the bottom marked Signature.

In that box U can insert details of your PC which helps when giving a solution. For example:

HP Laptop
Windows Vista SP2
2GB RAM
IE
Google (Default)
Firefox

To me the details of Browsers in use is vital. They are more hassle that a woman pleading for new clothes!
Once U have made any changes just click Save Changes (bottom right). Your password boxes may be blank. Leave them alone unless U want REAL hassle! Provided U are logged in the changes will take effect.

2. Not sure U have the Microsoft Office Compatibility installed? If not it is recommended in slower time & the link is here:

http://www.microsoft.com/download/en/details.aspx?...

3. Unsure if U ever receive Microsoft Access documents? If so the free viewer is here:

http://www.microsoft.com/download/en/details.aspx?...

As with all Microsoft programme installations. Install>immediately run Windows Update & install any outstanding hot fixes>run a full PSI scan to check they are registered & secure.

4. Now U have Microsoft Viewers installed U will almost certainly be offered future updates via Windows Update on "Patch Tuesday". Microsoft see free viewers as Office products & some belief that because they have not got the full programme installed the updates do not apply. FATAL error. The golden rule is that if Microsoft offer updates INSTALL THEM.

There is no requirement to copy this detail. Even though the thread may be locked it is accessible at any time to U & others.

Hope this helps U a bit more.
