HI,

OK: Winamp my mistake but PUTTY

http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/putty/
2011-12-10 PuTTY 0.62 released

PuTTY 0.62 is out, containing only bug fixes from 0.61, in particular a security fix preventing passwords from being accidentally retained in memory.

I accpect from PSI that I get the information that I need a new Putty Version "security fix".

Or is it for Secunia not a "security fix"?

Thanks
Peter

Peter,
The vendor is calling it a bug fix - there is no vulnerabilty report on that internal programme issue therefore it remains a bug fix.

When U updated to version 0.62 did it register in the Scan Result page of PSI?

Edit:
I have just trawled the site U gave me. It clearly states version 0.62 is in BETA as follows:

PuTTY is a free implementation of Telnet and SSH for Windows and Unix platforms, along with an xterm terminal emulator. It is written and maintained primarily by Simon Tatham.

The latest version is beta 0.62.

LEGAL WARNING: Use of PuTTY, PSCP, PSFTP and Plink is illegal in countries where encryption is outlawed. I believe it is legal to use PuTTY, PSCP, PSFTP and Plink in England and Wales and in many other countries, but I am not a lawyer and so if in doubt you should seek legal advice before downloading it. You may find this site useful (it's a survey of cryptography laws in many countries) but I can't vouch for its correctness.

Use of the Telnet-only binary (PuTTYtel) is unrestricted by any cryptography laws.

Latest news
2011-12-10 PuTTY 0.62 released

As previously explained Secunia do not asset track programmes in BETA.

OK. I understand the product idea. It is a pity, because it is one of the mean SSH implementations for use anywhere in Windows and has a security hole. But well, I unfortunately can not be trusted 100% PSI, that my system is safe as possible. What is again more maintenance. Too bad.

Thank you for the very friendly and fast support
