I cannot get Microsoft .NET Framework 1x, 2x, 3x, & 4x to patch on my dad's computer. I've done MS update after MS update after MS update and shut down and started up the computer as required about 1,000 times. I even reinstalled .NET but no dice. Secunia, of course, was re-run after each attempt. It seems like I'm now caught in this same reboot/reapply cycle of the same update that just won't stick. All other programs are patched with no issues according to Secunia.

NB: I am perpetually scrubbing viruses off of my dad's computer, so i'm wondering this is a virus issue? However, FWIW, a surface scan with Malwarebytes and Spybot Search & Destroy showed no viruses. Additionally, I *did* make sure that any patch dowloads were from Microsoft's genuine pages and not from a redirect or "look alike" site.

Here's the Troubleshoot Report for .NET 1x. (I can paste 2x, 3x, & 4x if needed, but I'm assuming solving for 1 will solve for the rest.):

Have you tried this?

If you uninstall .NET Framework, these are the recommended orders to reinstall it.

You can probably omit .NET Framework 4 as it's unlikely that there are any programs that need it unless something new has been installed recently.

Having had viruses, using cleanup tools, uninstalling and installing different anti-virus programs are all suspected of causing problems with updating .NET Framework.

Try asking your question here:

Several people on that forum have procedures for dealing with this kind of issue.

As you are in the USA, you can call Microsoft free on 1-866-PCSAFETY for help with security updates.
