I am running PSI 3.0 on Windows 7 64-Bit with IE8. It is not detecting updates for my Java and Adobe AIR. The AIR generated a message to contact support, for which it sent scan results. Could these programs be the cause of a BSOD I just had? I was not able to open the Small Memory Crash Dump and don't want to create another BSOD to diagnose the problem.

Have you tested that Oracle JAVA is installed correctly?

Test link here:

http://www.java.com/en/download/installed.jsp

It might also be worth uninstalling Adobe AIR to see if that helps.

Assistance on completing the action from the CMD prompt before reinstalling is here:

The Java tests fine. Even though I uninstalled and reinstalled AIR a few times, I did it again your way. PSI still does not detect them.

Incidentally, the log in box for this page pops up below the screen; so the buttons are not in view.

Not sure what is causing that then.

I have just loaded Oracle JAVA & Adobe AIR onto a test PC using Windows 7 SP1.

Both show perfectly without the need to complete a full PSI rescan after installation.

The pop up balloon gives proper notice that both were installed & again correctly informed me when I uninstalled both programmes.

I assume the BSOD is no longer an issue?

The BSOD did not reoccur since restarting the computer. I should explain that, besides IE8, I also have Firefox and SeaMonkey, which are not compatible with the latest Java. Therefore, I have more than one Java. Right now I have just run PSI. The history page shows that the AIR update failed.

Something major is wrong because I tried but failed to install and test two AIR applications.

I just ran Secunia and it seems to have downloaded the three updates since "Click To Update" was never highlighted previously. It must take a long time for Secunia to obtain these updates since the previous version took the user right to where downloads installed immediately.

Thanks for asking but no, I am not fixed up. Maybe fixed up in a more negative sense. Out of the three available updates Secunia detected, I only clicked on the one for AIR. I don't know what it is doing, but it is still updating. This is worse than the previous version I had. I only installed this one because version 2.0 froze to where the buttons did not work. These affected programs may not be the cause for the BSOD, but I would like to eliminate the problems they may cause in case they are.

After the power came back, AIR and Java were no longer problems. Instead Secunia PSI showed Mozilla SeaMonkey needing update. PSI has shown SeaMonkey consistently updating even though I know I have the most current version. Why is it taking Secunia so long to catch up with my system? It seems that the previous version of Secunia was better.

The latest install may have left behind the old exe file. If that is the case PSI will "see it" & try to update that file.

Have you checked the SeaMonkey folder in Windows Explorer for any dross?

Thanks for unlocking the thread and getting back. I do not know how to identify the "dross," but there is no .exe file older than 10/17/2012.

What path is PSI giving you?

FINDING A FILE PATH USING PSI

VERSION 2

From the DASHBOARD page click on SCAN RESULTS.

1. This will list all your programmes with a + to the left of each programme.
2. Click the + sign next to the item that U want help with.
3. This will reveal the path under DETECTED INSTANCES.
4. Below DETECTED INSTANCES you will see this You can double click this row for additional information & options>double click it>a box will appear>look to the RIGHT & U will see TROUBLESHOOT REPORT in BLUE writing under the heading TOOLBOX> click TroubleShoot Report & it will reveal some information in a box>highlight the information revealed from ---START--- to ---END--- & copy it (CTRL+C) then post it to the Forum (CTRL+V)

VERSION 3
This version does not have such an easy method to publish the path.

Open PSI>once open select Show Programs.
U will now see a page full of programme icons or a list.
Right click on the programme in error>select Show Details - that will open a box showing the path & version number of the offending file.
U now have 2 options:
1. Write down the exact file path & install version - return to the Forum & type that information.
2. Take a screen shot & publish that.

Having just read this it looks like you may need to update:

http://www.seamonkey-project.org/releases/

If you know for a fact that the latest version is installed just do this:

VERSION 3

Open PSI>once open select Show Programs.

U will now see a page full of programme icons or a list.

Right click on the icon that represents the programme in error>select Show Details - that will open a box showing the path & version number of the offending file.

Double click on C:\Program Files (x86)\SeaMonkey\seamonkey.exe. Installed Version: 2.13.1.

That will open Windows Explorer & U will see that file. Right click on it & select delete.

Run a full PSI scan & the problem should be resolved.

Not with that version number. Could Secunia have misidentified the file location? Usually these things are in Windows, System32 or thereabouts.

You gave me this data as being identified by PSI.

C:\Program Files (x86)\SeaMonkey\seamonkey.exe. Installed Version: 2.13.1

PSI reads the meta data of installed programmes & I would expect an exe file to be in Program Files where they have found it.

If you definitely have version 2.13.2 installed the old exe file will be in that folder which requires manual deletion.

An alternative is to completely remove SeaMonkey via Control Panel>add/remove then complete a full PSI scan to check the problem has been removed.

Once any outstanding issues have been fixed reinstall the programme.

I don't understand why, but Secunia PSI no longer shows SeaMonkey as a problem. Instead it shows AIR, FlashPlayer and QuickTime as updating, even though I updated manually both FlashPlayer and QuickTime. Is this going to take forever to correct?

It might never correct it if there are remnants of an older programme still installed.

All versions of PSI give the path to the vulnerable file it is trying to update or finds vulnerable.

If you are sure you have the latest version installed it is just a matter of navigating to the file/folder it points to & manually deleting it/them.

A full PSI rescan should them indicate it is fixed.

From what I see, that is not true of QuickTime and FlashPlayer; however, there is a new version of AIR available. I am closing and rerunning Secunia PSI now.

If your IE Flash files are EXACTLY the same as mine then PSI should be showing like this:

If it does not what is the path?

Perhaps this problem had nothing to do with the BSOD. The problem was most likely a false alarm. When I saw the icon turn red in the System Tray, I probably should have run a new scan like I just did. The last scan I just began came up with a 100% score. When the score was less, it probably was not a problem at all. A new scan would have most likely shown the affected programs up to date.
