I've installed PSI ver 3.0 on my Win 8 pro laptop & everything has been working fine until recently the icon will not turn green & I'm continually told a programme requires a manual update, when I open psi all my listed programmes are upto date, I've tried rescanning but results don't change. I've also run Windows update & everything is fully patched.
I suspect a reinstall will be required but wanted to ask advice on the problem first in case there's a more simple solution.
I've tried running:
PSI tray.
psia.
sua.
Thanks in advance.

Virginia,
What path does PSI give you to the problem?

Open PSI>once open select Show Programs.
U will now see a page full of programme icons or a list.
Right click on the programme in error>select Show Details - that will open a box showing the path & version number of the offending file.
U now have 2 options:
1. Write down the exact file path & install version - return to the Forum & type that information.
2. Take a screen shot & publish that.

That is the problem as there's no programme showing any error/requiring a manual update, as stated all programmes are upto date/100%. Only the icon shows that a programme requires manual update.

Virginia,
Thank you. This has been an possible bug for some time that Secunia Support are/were working on. They may give an update to this thread.

As you suggest a reinstall has & may cure it for you.

From what I've read I understood the bug had something to do with the icon remaining red but that all programmes showed they were upto date when you hovered the mouse over the icon & when you opened the programme, my problem is slightly different in that when I hover the mouse over the icon I'm told I have programmes which require a manual update. Can you confirm my situation is part of the same bug?

Your problem could be down to the programme's bug which hopefully will be fixed soon.

Virginia,
Secunia issued a new release of PSI version 3 yesterday.

Click this link:

http://secunia.com/PSISetup.exe

It should auto uninstall the old version & install the new. Just follow any prompts.

Once installed complete a full PSI scan. Has that changed anything?

Have downloaded & installed but the problem still remains, I've even removed the previous version manually then installed the latest version - same result.
It's as though there's a programme which isn't showing in the list which is requiring the update.

In your list of programmes is Adobe Flash showing? (I assume you have it installed)

Thank you - I only ask because there are problems with Secunia displaying Adobe Flash.

I note that Secunia Support have not responded to this thread.

I would email them at support@secunia.com and ask them for direct assistance.

I did install the newest version of PSI and the problem is the same. The icon in the tray is red after a successfull scan and when I come with the cursor on the red icon it tells that some programs need a manual update.

Will do so.
I tried ver 2 which worked fine so may use that if there's no solution from support.

Virginia,
That implies that PSI V3 is the issue. If V2 works perfectly I would stick with it. More details by clicking the link below my Signature Block.

Do you know when the fix for the red icon will be implemented?
I'd prefer to stick with ver 3 as it automatically adds several unused programmes into the 'do not receive updates' section.

Virginia,
My last communication with support on this issue indicated the alleged bug was difficult to reproduce & they were asking for some users to submit their user logs.

Did support not ask for your log when you emailed them?

Not too sure what you mean by this:

I'd prefer to stick with ver 3 as it automatically adds several unused programmes into the 'do not receive updates' section.

PSI should not be automatically ignoring any programmes. Users must set their own rules & V2 is much better equipped to do this because it has more flexible options.

I wanted to email them via my win 8 laptop which is unavailable at the moment, also I didn't know which email address to use nor do I know how to access the log.
I seem to recall upon first installing several programs were added to the ignore list, they are the installer .exe files left over from Vista (I upgraded from Vista to Win 8) & these files were in a folder containing all the software & drivers which were included with Vista, you say PSI doesn't add these automatically yet even the Win 7 machine did the same with several programs; even one or two that were in use, I seem to recall asking on here about why some of my programs were continually being re-added to the ignore list after I'd chosen not to ignore them which suggests that they were being automatically added.

Virginia,
The only other thread you have created is here:
https://secunia.com/community/forum/thread/show/12...

As stated at the time I considered that a unique bug. Did you report it as suggested?

I would contact support once your Windows 8 PC is in use.

As previously advised the email address is support@secunia.com

Secunia should advise you if they want log files & how to do it. Basically, the log files are here which you can read at any time:

Hope this helps.

I did report it but I don't recall hearing anything back after I'd sent details other than thanking me for sending in the log files.
Will check on those log files & email the support, see if there's a reply/solution forthcoming.

Pleased to see you are all fixed up once Secunia issue the bug fix.

On that basis, I will lock this thread for U sometime tomorrow unless U post back asking for it to be left open.

This will protect your mail box from possible update emails from "tag on" posts

You can of course lock threads U have created. Just click the ACCEPT button in the post of the helper who offered U the best solution/advice to solve your problem.

Secunia Support can always reopen threads by applying by email to: support@secunia.com

Currently I cannot get any confirmation that the message in regards to having programs which require a manual update is part of the bug, I've asked for further verification but all I'm receiving are emails saying that they are working on the bug for the red icon problem & nothing about whether that message is part of the bug or not.
I'd currently like the thread left open until I hear something more on the matter.
Thanks.
