Hi, Until I installed Win 7 (32 bit) a few months ago I had no problems running Secunia PSI.

1. Unless I untick the revocation certificate checks in IE Internet Options, I get
verifying internet connection... interminably.
(See log below- ref. revocation certificate)

(To me, any program that hangs forever has a bug in it)

2. The scan skips from stage 2 to 7.
With the revocation certificate checks unticked, Secunia PSI connects & launches its GUI.
If I then start a scan, the quite often reported problem is it skipping from stage 2 to 7.

What have I tried?
- a browser check on psi.secunia.com:443
- this is reported open.
- disabling my firewall (psi.exe and psia.exe are listed as 'Allow').
- uninstalling, reinstalling

Any ideas? Thanks!

Part log file with revocation certificate checks enabled.. but still a failure in the log file.

Have you had a look at the FAQ to check none of your settings have changed?

FAQ here:

Thanks, yes. Already done. Site added, checked scripting. I've been round this one a few times.

Also can confirm two services listed, one manual, not started, one automatic, started.

Try setting them both to auto start.

Hi, services- done as aked. No change. Program stuck- have to kill task. (So many have reported this, it seems it might be a good idea to give some sort of outcome after a timeout.. rather than leaving it stuck in a loop somewhere..?)

If I uncheck the check for server certificate revocation in Internet Options, PSI connects to the internet.

(See my log ref. revocation).

There could be something relevant here..?

So I proceed to the scan.. and it skips step 2 to 7. "Scan aborted"

Can I provide more info from somewhere? Thanks..

If as stated you have completed all the settings advice in the FAQ it is perhaps better to let Secunia Support respond particularly in respect of this request (So many have reported this, it seems it might be a good idea to give some sort of outcome after a timeout.. rather than leaving it stuck in a loop somewhere..?)

There is something else worth checking in the interim. If you open settings>drives are your hard drives listed there?

Hi, I note that as it connects to the internet, the text 'undefined' appears on the GUI.

I guess that means something to someone.

Regarding drives: a peculiar thing. I had 6 partitions, now reduced to 4.
a. the difference hasn't been noted by PSI.
b. uninstalling, reinstalling doesn't change this. Hmm.

How do I get Secunia's record to match reality?
This isn't looking too robust.

Something else you can look at while waiting for Secunia Support is to check your User ID is correct.

Before starting, shut down the PSI tray icon.

Go to start > run and enter Regedit.

Now navigate to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Secunia\PSI and look at this key.

https://akkkug.bay.livefilestore.com/y1p1FS5on3fMx...

If it is not correct delete that key (only that key) & then run a new PSI scan.

More interesting.. the key appeared correct (ok the width was different- I assume that's just the GUI box).

I deleted the userid, so that would start the scan from scratch. But now no drives are listed.

I'm just thinking I transferred most programs from my Vista build using Laplink PCMover. So the userid came with it.. it never started a new scan.

Maybe if I uninstall with Revo and reinstall.,,. 'cos the standard uninstall doesn't deal with this.

Well, I ended up just uninstalling, restarting, reinstalling.
And still 'unidentified' in first GUI display while connecting..
And no drives listed.

Hi

Can you please check if you can access http://crl.thawte.com/ThawteEVCA2006.crl <http://crl.thawte.com/ThawteEVCA2006.crl> ? That way we can check if this is because you cannot access the CRL site that Thawte has published for the certificate.

I also noted Windows 8 compatability checker failed to connect. I'm assuming it's the same problem - revocation certificate checking.

These work on a new install of Windows.. maybe that's the only solution. Thanks.
