Secunia shows I have 13 programs that need updating. But unable to do so. Following updates failed: MS.net Framework files, IE9, Windows 7, MS XML Core files, & MS Excel. Shows "Some Updates were not installed. Errors found Code 80246008 Windows encountered an unknown error."

Running MS7 64-bit. Pls advise.

PSI will not update anything Microsoft. That error is caused by BITS not running or missing. Details here:

Once it is up & running try to use Windows Update again,

Sorry for the delay in response. And thanx for the help. Followed directions but was unable to restart BITS. It just turns back off after a few seconds. Any suggestions? Windows Event Log seems to work fine.

Right click on the Action Centre in the task tray>select troubleshoot a problem>select Fix Problems with Windows Update (under System & Security)>click Next & let it run

Does that solve it?

EDIT: If that does not work I have also found this tool - I suspect it is the same as already tried but worth another go.

You can also find more information on manual fixes by typing BITS NOT WORKING into the browser.
