I'm running PSI version 2.0.0.3003 on a Win Vista machine and for the last two weeks or so I am suddenly receiving the following notification multiple times every day:

Secunia PSI - Program Change Detected
1 new program:
Microsoft Malware Protection 1.x (patched)

This little notification suddenly appears down by my system tray repeatedly during the day. I have never noticed it appearing so many time in all the years I have been running PSI on this computer.

I'm not really alarmed, just mystified. Surely Microsoft isn't updating their malware protection this often every day. And yes, I use Microsoft Security Essentials as my AV program, but it's set to update once a day, not 50.

Just wondering if anyone else is noticing this behavior.

I would suggest checking where the detected program is located. Is it perhaps on an external drive or in a temp-folder of some kind? That might give a clue to what is causing the pop-up.

Please see this FAQ entry.

There are 11 instances (and 5 different versions) of "Microsoft Malware Protection 1.x" on my PC. None of them are on an external drive and only 1 appears to be in a temp folder:

I don't know why so many versions and why they can't all be updated at the same time, but perhaps that is why I get the notification so many times.

I guess it's nothing to be overly concerned about.

Thank you, E.Jeppesen, for your time. I appreciate it.
