Good evening,

Just finished updating (all 29 Microsoft updates released), including one for Excel 2003. PSI keeps indicating I need to manually update it, despite the fact that the update history shows the update was successfully installed.

So, I repeated the manual update 3 more times, yet PSI still says the update is needed. (The Windows Update history list shows 4 successful updates...ALL for the Excel 2003). I do not use MS Office 2003 any longer, since I have Office 2010 on the computer.

I've already done a complete shutdown and reboot of the system twice as well. Have re-scanned with PSI twice - no change.

[Computer specs]: Win 7 Pro, SP1, Intel Core 2 Duo 3.00 gHz, 8 GB RAM, 400 GB HDD

My question: How can I resolve this problem?

Thanks very much for your time and any feedback!

Same thing happened when I downloaded and installed the latest Windows updates.

Secunia is reporting I need to manually download updates for Microsoft Office Excel 2007 and for Microsoft Office Word 2007.
Both were udated and installed in the latest downloads.
Windows update shows I have downloaded and installed both four times
I have rescanned, rebooted and scanned again - Secunia still asks for manual updates on these two items.

After the initial downloads, microsoft offers the following "additional" downloads :

Security Update for Microsoft Office 2007 suites (KB2760411)

Security Update for Microsoft Office 2007 suites (KB2760588)

Security Update for Microsoft Office Excel 2007 (KB2760583)

Does this problem lie with Microsoft or Secunia ?

I'm thinking this is a Microsoft issue, as I've already received one reply to my inquiry there in which the person stated they were having the exact same problem as I described here with the one specific Excel update. Unfortunately no one has come up with a solution to this issue (at least both here & in the Microsoft Forums).

Thanks for confirming the problem! At least I know there IS a problem with this particular update.

Same here - the Seadley experience.
And, of course, relieved to know that I am not alone! I think we have had similar problems before that turned out to be completely harmless.

Secunia does not manage anything Microsoft - they just inform the user of vulnerabilities from the meta data it scans on a user PC.

Have you all tried a second opinion from Microsoft using MBSA?

The usage instructions & install link is here:

http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.as...

It is a simple tool to use & can be easily removed once your investigations are complete.

MBSA alerts me to the same thing, directs back to Windows Update - with exactly the same result. Something is fishy: Secunia was right!.

Dunno about Excel 2003, but there's definitely a problem with both Word 2007 and Excel 2007, on many different versions of Windows. Problem acknowledged by MS. Won't be fixed until MS fixes it. See my recent postings in other threads...
