Hi,
Long time user of Secunia and love the program.
I have tried everything to get the program to work but no dice.
Uninstall, reinstall, clean registry, etc.. ,
I keep getting the error message "please check that your internet connection"

I am using Windows 8.1

Thank you. I have just opened up my Windows 8.1 test PC with that version of PSI seems to be OK.

Does the PSI log file give you any clues?

Open File Explorer> C:\Program Files(x86)> Secunia> PSI

By clicking on PSI the right hand pane will reveal one (possibly two) clearly marked log files.

Right click & delete them.

Now activate PSI> it will create a new log file- does that give any useful information on the problem?

That is not a complete start up log - is Secunia PSI Agent running in Windows Services?

As I am sure you have noted it is returning some Windows Error codes.

What is causing that is anyone's guess. To try & short cut any investigation with your PC you could try:

Installing another version of PSI to see if that works: A link to version 2.0.0.4003 is here:

https://secunia.com/PSI2Setup.exe

If that returns the same error you could try a reinstall of version 3 using this link:

https://secunia.com/PSISetup.exe

IN BOTH CASES YOU JUST CLICK THE LINK. Any old copies of PSI will be removed automatically before any new version is installed.

If the problem persists I would double check all the settings outlined in the FAQ here:

https://secunia.com/vulnerability_scanning/persona...

Installed earlier version from the link but this version gets to step 2 or 3 then gives a scan aborted warning.

Have you compared log files? Are the Windows error messages still showing using this version of PSI?

I have exactly the same problem. I am running XP (with all available patches) and the latest Secunia 3.0. Here is the log from the point where I restartet the laptop:

Your problem may look the same but there are a couple of differences.

1. Unlike the originator you are running an obsolete OS that has not been updated for months - it may well be compromised causing your problem. No one can tell.

2. You are running PSI version 3.0.0.7009 - that is not the latest version. I have published details of the latest version on my posts above.

I would try to update PSI to see if that helps.

I am happy to inform you that the update solved the problem. I have exactly the same problem on a PC running Win 7, so I expect an update will solve the problem on that PC as well. The downside of this problem is that although Secunia PSI informs you of updates to other programs (and in many cases installs the update as well), it dos not inform of updates to itself. I have never gotten any indication that an update to PSI was necessary.

Sadly this statement is not accurate. The downside of this problem is that although Secunia PSI informs you of updates to other programs (and in many cases installs the update as well)

PSI is a vulnerability checker & not a general updater as explained here:

http://secunia.com/vulnerability_scanning/personal...

The only way to find any cosmetic change updates to PSI is to check here occasionally:

https://secunia.com/products/consumer/PSI/sys_req/

A request for a more robust way to inform users was requested years ago - looks like it has fallen on deaf ears.

If you want to make a suggestion to Secunia the details are here (Best you use the email link as they are not active on this Forum):

http://secunia.com/vulnerability_scanning/personal...
