Have you checked the PSI log file to see if that gives any clues to the abort action?

What OS are you using?

I just went through a reinstall of 2.0.0.4003 since the v3 was not working. I did the uninstall with REVOuninstaller, so pretty much everything was wiped out.

And the reinstalled v2 is still timing out as everybody else has reported.

Where do I see the log file? I just reran the scan and it times out so there should be a log.
ADDED: Log file was not checked by default in the settings so there was not one. I have now checked it andnam rerunning the scan.

OS is Windows 8.1 original not update.

The log file is created with all the other Secunia PSI files in Windows Explorer.

Any clue as to where I should look...
where are "... all the other Secunia PSI files in Windows Explorer."?

I found it psilog.txt in Documents.
Surprised it is there...every time I open PSI, the setting for the logging has been UNCHECKED even though I previously checked it.

and it automatically stats a scan--which never gets past step 7; it sits at step 7 until the aborrted message comes up.

here is log

The logged results for 1-3 at the end of the scan are quite different from the previous ones in August.

This is good. at least the log file shows data for when it was running correctly.

Is IE up to date & configured as per the FAQ?
Have you disabled SSL in IE settings & enabled TLS?

I ask because this code -2146827850 , Object doesn't support property or method 'setLogging' is normally associated with IE.

Please be aware that Secunia Support will not help on this Forum. On that basis any volunteer helper requires as much information as possible to try & assist. In my case I work on the assumption that anyone installing any software has:

Read the EULA, Privacy Statement, User Manual & the FAQ which are all available with PSI.

What FAQ? No such link on this page. https://secunia.com/vulnerability_scanning/persona...

All the basic information on PSI can be found here before you sign up to download:
https://secunia.com/vulnerability_scanning/persona...

And disable SSL?! Isn't that required for https? http://security.stackexchange.com/questions/70719/... is but one of many warnings of the POODLE problem.

IE is up to date---and I mentioned that before all was working fine--so if IE is required, clearly it was OK then.

IE required? https://secunia.com/vulnerability_scanning/persona...

IE does not appear to be OK - the log file shows an Error Code 2146827850 which you need to investigate. It is unclear from this submission OS is Windows 8.1 original not update what exactly you have installed. Are you using Windows 8 with IE 10 embedded which was the original version 8 or Windows 8.1 with IE11? If after running a manual Windows Update scan are there any outstanding items that have been ignored (hidden) or any that require installation?

A clear error has been identified which at first sight looks like an "own goal" which is preventing the scan from completing.

I personally would want to investigate if any of these is a causal factor:

IE from the error message displayed?
Is Windows fully up to date & check if necessary any hidden items.
The running of an obsolete version of Microsoft Office that has not been updated since April?
If the IE settings match the requirements of the FAQ?
Try a reinstall without the use of a third party uninstaller. Any PSI reinstall/update installation automatically uninstalls the old version without the need for 3rd party intervention. This method works flawlessly.
Try another supported version of PSI - I have the official links to V 1/2/3 if required.

If all the efforts fail Secunia Support may be interested in your investigations - details are here on the extensive requirements to be submitted by email https://secunia.com/community/forum/thread/show/15...

Hope this helps a bit more.
