I have Secunia ver 2.0.0.4003 installed and my operating system Windows 7 Professional.

A few days ago I installed the latest Chrome ver 40.0.2214.111 but my Secunia shows that I have 40.0.2214.94 and it is still current. In other words it does not recognize the latest version.

This issue happened 5 days ago with different - previous - versions

Peter

Peter,
Is this not the same type of issue you reported on your last thread?

I suspect you are not removing the old version of Google/Doubleclick after you update which is explained in the Secunia FAQ:
https://1ncuig-ch3302.files.1drv.com/y2pziT503uDGI...

Worth looking and deleting if necessary.

DELETING A FILE OR FOLDER PSI VERSION 2

1. Open PSI>Scan results.

2. Against the programme marked as vulnerable is a + sign to the left of it.

3. Click that & it will reveal DETECTED INSTANCES.

4. Below that are two yellow folders. Click the one WITHOUT a red dot.

5. That will open Windows Explorer (File Explorer) & you will be able to see the old file.

6. Right click on that file & select delete.

7. Carry out a full PSI scan & all should be in order with your latest version showing.

Hope it works if not perhaps Anthony Wells will see this thread & help out as I do not use third party browsers.

Hello Maurice,

I have followed your advice and it worked like a charm. For some unknown reason Chrome always leaves a copy of the old installation folders and leaves the old exe file there having it renamed "old_Chrome.exe" Perhaps to enable one go go back to the old version if the new one causes problems.

By following your advice it solved this particular instance, but at the next update the problem will come up again.

Thanks for your input

From sunny 33C Sydney cheers Peter

Peter,
That is correct. As explained by Secunia the Google stance on old versions is:

An example of a vendor deliberatively leaving behind the old version is Google, who do not remove old versions when installing updates for Google Chrome. This is an intentional policy on Google's behalf, and is done to prevent developers using Chrome from losing any of their work.

I note your weather - no golf here today - frost on the course!!!!

Many thanks Maurice!

I now deleted all the folders and files associated with the old version without any adverse effect - just to see what happens.

In future updates I will let it be, as lately there is quite a regular update activity on Chrome, we seem to get a new version every couple of weeks!

As for the "Frost Report" - so sorry to hear! If you miss golf that much just hop on a Qantas Flight and you will be here in 24 hours-:)

Cheers Peter
