PSI shows 7-Zip 16.0.0.0 as up-to-date.

There is another entry shown as 7-Zip 9.20 that needs updating. This showed up this morning after I installed a program called Softmaker, and it's location is in C/Program Files/Softmaker Office 2016.

I have no idea how to handle this. Why would this new program contain an old version of 7-Zip?

Is PSI telling you that 7Zip version 9.20 is vulnerable?

If, as you suggest this was embedded in the download of Softmaker Office 2016 I would:

!. Notify the vendor that they are running a potentially unsafe programme until they remove 7Zip 9.20.

2. Uninstall Softmaker and find a suitable replacement that is secure - there are plenty including Microsoft Office & LibreOffice which I believe is a freebie.

Do not know whether you have also made a typo but 7 Zip is at version 16.02 on their site

Hope this helps.

I have the same issue. However, where Secunia says I have 9.20 installed is not there.

It says it is in C:\Windows\Downloaded Program Files, but all that is in that folder is 3 java runtime environment docs, one for 1.7.0 and 2 for 1.8.0, and one doc that is titled {100000000-1000-1000-1000-100000000000}.

I have a C:\ drive and a D:\ drive. The C:\ drive is where Windows is installed, but after install I made the default install the D:\ drive as the C:\ drive is an SSD.

The files are not in the same directory on D:; it doesn't exist.

I like that Secunia finds things to fix. I don't like that it sometimes doesn't show how it found it or how to fix it.

I do not think there is any similarity between your issue and the originator except it involves 7 Zip.

I assume the original problem is resolved in that the issue could be clearly identified as belonging to a third party download.

You cannot find the offending file which requires a very different response.

On that basis, you should be aware that the originator can lock this thread at any time and we may be frozen out so you may need to create your own thread.

This may help you assuming you are also using Windows 10.

To identify what PSI has found you need to look in the Downloaded Programs Files folder using the Command Prompt as an administrator. Once identified you can delete it from there.

If you are not familiar with using the prompt I can give you an easy to follow script.

Hope this helps.
