Windows 7 64-bit, Secunia version 2.

Not sure what to make of this. There are no updates according to Tracker Software's updater, but Secunia is saying otherwise.

Is PSI telling you it is End of Life? This appears to indicate that the viewer is discontinued and you need to upgrade.

Yes, Secunia is telling me that my version of the viewer is end of life. However, my version is the latest version (2.5.319.0 ). Am I understanding that PDF-XChange Editor has taken the place of the viewer?

Yes - the link I sent you clearly states

The PDF-XChange Viewer has been discontinued and replaced by the PDF-XChange Editor which is now available including all the features of the Viewer and much, much more. . .

I installed the Editor, but there are many resource-grabbing features that the average user may not be interested in (I had to deselect most of them). The old PDF-XChange viewer had no such features, and no browser addons installed either. Would it be detrimental to reinstall the viewer remove the Editor?

The downside of using End of Life programmes is that the vendor will no longer fix any flaws or vulnerabilities nor will PSI track it except to tell you it is End of Life. On that basis there is a risk to your security but you may consider it worth taking. Equally, there are plenty of other free PDF readers you could try

Hope this helps

Just got an email from Tracker software about the issue...

Hello,

Thanks for your e-mail and enquiry.

We still keep the Viewer available for download on our website, but it is indeed no longer being worked on, so it won't get any new features or fixes in the future. We might resolve some very critical security issues if any such are found in the future - but this is not guaranteed, and the more time passes since the last actual build with changes for the Viewer, the less likely is that we will change anything in it.

So, indeed I would recommend you the Editor which is the current product and the one where we fix all issues found and keep on adding new features. You can customize the interface (including the main menu), and remove any tools that you do not need to free up screen space.

Merry Christmas and a Happy New year,

1. Very much as I suggested plus you will never be notified by PSI that any future critical vulnerability exists. Every scan from now on will state End of Life.
2. If you want to stop users posting to your thread you can lock it by selecting accept on the post that helped you the most or I can lock it for you or it will auto lock after 7 days of no activity.
3. To log out of the Forum look to the top right you will see login - click that and from the drop down box select Community Logout
