PSI 3.0 version which has been happily functioning without issue for over a year this week started showing a grey icon. The underlying program was still working but the icon to tell you that something needed a manual update wasn't. I reverted back to PSI 2 as my wife's PC had the same issue a month ago. But I found that PSI 2.0 is no longer supported so did a complete uninstall of PSI 2.0 and reinstalled PSI 3.0 again.

I receive at installation ... Unable to retrieve PSI User ID from Secunia

According to other issues its because IE cannot get to:
https://psi.secunia.com:443/

But it can. And I am not using a proxy. The help message on the error is not relevant to me.

So why is it not able to get there? Why has PSI stopped working when everyone should be upgrading to PSI 3.0?

I will really miss this handy tool.

Hello

Can you explain why you need a user I.D.?

I have never needed one to use PSI.

I'm sorry, I must learn to read but I have never seen that message.

Anyone else?

Joe. I once had this issue so I did what you did, and just went on without using the id. 443 is most likely the port the program was using to phone in or out. I don't recall that message though. Neither do I use IE.

Well I'd rather this thread is not ignored but never mind ... I found an alternative to PSI ... works well it seems and is properly supported.

Farewell Secunia. I knew you well.

No NO

The ignore was because I posted twice by accident and this forum has no delete choice. No edir either.

What is the replacement you found?

I was just looking at this. Not sure how well it works.

https://www.avira.com/en/avira-software-updater-pr...

I'm pretty much switching to Linux anyway.

Microsoft basically did what Flexera is doing.

Malwarebytes did the same thing too.

I don't need any of these programs in Linux.

Don't blame you.

Give it a try and report back if you have the time.

For the record, I am O.K. now with PSI Version 3 (so far) and Malwarebytes on all 5 computers. Can't believe my luck.

I'm not sure if this answer will be allowed to remain however it is SUMO.

http://www.kcsoftwares.com/?sumo

I have tried the lite version (free) and it surprisingly found a lot of my programmes that were not updated, which PSI Secunia had said were ok.

O.K.

I played with SUMO a couple of days ago but not for long.

Thanks for the info. Much appreciated.
