I just read an older question about setting the time and date for scans and I have a problem with one of the answers - mainly, if one chooses "manually" Scan now, the program will scan again a week later at the same time and day - not true, it advances the time later and later. I want it to scan at the same time every week and it will not do that. My Computer is not turned on 24/7, therefore it will not scan when it's turned off. Is it that difficult to program Secunia for Owners choice when to scan?

I am sure it works as follows: start scan at any time and it will auto-
matically set the next scan one week later. My computer is also not on
all the time. I set the runs on every Tuesday 14.30 because my system is
always on at that time. The only thing I am not sure of, what happens
when the system is off at the scheduled time. Some time ago I was on holidays on a tuesday, came back at Wednesday. The scan did not start automatically and I forgot to look if the next schedule was changed.

Ah, but it doesn't scan at the same time the next week, it scans 7 hours later. Ex:Today it scanned at 10:58a.m. on 11 April. and it scheduled itself to scan next Saturday (18 April) at 17:58pm. Yes I can scan whenever I want or it is convenient, problem - I want it to scan automatically every week at the same time. No can do, it's not in the Secunia program to do that. My question is "How hard can it be, when every other program I have installed for security and just tasks can run at the same time either day after day, or week after week"? It's a pain to have to remember to run the program myself.
Thanks for answering.

I cannot explain why that happens. My PSI runs every week the same time.
Maybe there is someone in the forum who knows why?

I just looked and mine is scheduled to rescan in 6d16h - how odd.
------------------------------------------
Last & Next Full System Scan

The last full system scan was conducted on:
6 Apr. 2009, 18:04

The next scheduled full system scan is on:
13 Apr. 2009, 10:04
------------------------------------------
And my laptop also has 6d16h (but 4d6h6m later than the desktop)...

For me it is:
The last full system scan was conducted on:
7 Apr. 2009, 01:27

The next scheduled full system scan is on:
14 Apr. 2009, 9:27

I don't see any way to force PSI to do an automatic scan before the next scheduled full system scan. I don't see that time stored in the registry or in editable form anywhere else.

I have an idea! Don't start PSI at boot[1]. Instead, use the Windows task scheduler to automatically start it up at a desired scan time sometime after the next scheduled full system scan. When PSI is automatically started, it will notice the scheduled scan is past due, and start the scan soon, if not immediately. Can anyone propose a better workaround?

[1] PSI's "continuous monitoring of new program installations and removals" doesn't seem to have any security benefit beyond giving me a list of what programs are on my computer. It doesn't appear to notify me of any security patches when they are released; instead, I get notified the next time it does a scan. It also doesn't notify me about any unpatched vulnerabilities, i.e. vulnerabilities the vendor hasn't patched yet. It would be very nice if it did that so I could have some protection against zero-day exploits.

Thanks to you all for the input, the more the merrier and maybe Secunia will make this happen. For now it's manual for me.

You're welcome. It's manual scans for me too: about once a week, but at my convenience.

Secunia PSI is a Set and forget application as far as I can see.

Maybe its from reading too many Mad Magazines when I was younger What, me worry?
