Todays Secunia PSI scan of my system indicated that I need a Security Update for PowerPoint Viewer 2003 (KB969615). When I run that Microsoft update, however, it says "There are no products affected by this update on your system" and nothing is updated.

I have the complete Microsoft Office 2003 on my system, and it is completely up-to-date.

Why does Secunia say I need an update when Microsoft says I do NOT need it?

Thanks,

Bryan

I too have run into this problem. I am treating this as a false positive for now.

I wonder if this is because of the Powerpoint fix that MS released on May 12th?

Have a look at the location of the insecure viewer program, and you may find it is not in the default Microsoft location. This is often because viewer is supplied with other programs and installed in thier own programs folder. An example might be Easy Worship Presentation software. I have patched mine in the past by first installing an up to date version of viewer from MS in the default location, and then copying it to the folder which holds the insecure version as found by PSI. Then rescan the folder to be sure you overwrote the old exe file.

It is in the default location as per the note that Secunia produces.

On my computer, there were no third-party software that uses the PP viewer.

There is an equivalent Office 2007 topic.

I have the same problem (Office 2003 professional). Power Point Viewer (2003) is in the location referred to by Secunia. Tried the fix anyway, MS says "no product applies".
I suppose I should "ignore" the insecure message?
Disappointing.

Here's more. The powerpoint viewer and associated dlls are present in the Office 11 folder, but Power Point Viewer does not show in add/remove. Downloaded and installed PowerPoint Viewer (2003) - after that the MS security *did* install. The viewer is *not* in the Office11 folder. It's in C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\PowerPoint Viewer - ran scan again, Secunia STILL looks in Office11.

Thanks, Maurice!
It worked (downloading the viewer fix, manually extracting to temp folder etc)
Another happy camper,

Being lazy, I downloaded the patch, renamed the viewer, ran the patch( installed the updated viewer). Tested Powerpoint, and then deleted the old viewer.
