Secunia has highlighted the above program as insecure. I downloaded the update via the link provided. The update is KB969615. However when I run the download the message I get is 'There are no products affected by this package installed on this system'. Program is located on C:\programs files\microsoft office\office11\pptview.exe The program is not listed in my add/remove programs. I have microsoft office professional 2003 installed and included is a full version of powerpoint 2003.

Thanks, but you would think there would be an easier way to do this. My powerpoint viewer 2003 is not in add/remove programs. Why would that be? How can I delete the viewer since I have the full version of office 2003 professional. Another question is why doesnt microsoft provide a download to delete the old viewer or have the download for the newer 2007 viewer delete the older version?

I have both office 11 and 12, I went into explorer and added .bak to both PPT viewer files. I have since opened PP files with no problem, apparently the program cares less what the extension is a very simple fix.

This whole thread and several others are a strong argument for PSI including the Microsoft "KB" number in the "Details" when a program fails the scan.

The Powerpoint Viewer is installed if your full copy of Powerpoint 2003 has the 'Advanced customization option' of 'Package for CD and PowerPoint Viewer' installed. Set that to 'Not Available' and it will be uninstalled.

Hello Hansk, I have the same problem with Power Point 2003. I tried to download the update from Microsoft, and saved it in documents, but I cannot run the update. (This was the advice of Microsoft, to save it first). What to do? Windows update says the PC is up to date.

Topper.

I couldn't uninstall my existing powerpoint viewer because it was not in the add/remove programs. What I ended up doing is renaming the existing powerpoint viewer from PPTVIEW to XPPTVIEW. I then downloaded the 2003 powerpoint viewer from microsoft and installed it as if I didn't have it. I then went back to the Microsoft update site to have my computer scanned for updates. Serval updates including all the necessary ones for the powerpoint viewer were successfully applied Secunia scan was succesful no more insecure viewer. Also the powerpoint viewer is now in my add/remove programs so I can delete it when I want. I read that microsoft will stop supporting the 2003 viewer this October. I might then delete the 2003 viewer and download the 2007 viewer.
