i have 9.0.0.2160 installed but 9.0.0.2162 is out. Why does PSI still say I am patched? Is it that there are no security changes between 2160 and 2162? If that is the case - any recommendations for something that will alert me on ALL updates to iunstalled programs?

U are correct. Secunia does not report on vendor cosmetic/bug fix updates.

U can compliment PSI with FileHippo. It will list MOST of your programmes for all types of changes.

The fileHippo scanner looks nice but required the "Microsoft .NET Framework 2.0" - any recomendations for something that is standalone?

Sorry I do not use this type of programme so cannot recommend any but FileHippo.

I use an email notification system. If U want the details I will post them here on the next occasion I receive an update warning?

The advantages are:
No programme is installed on the PC.
The email is destroyed once update installed.

Disadvantage.
Emails sometimes arrive with give details of vendor changes to the page it is watching but there is no change to the programme itself.

I have .NET Framework 2.0 installed and it is fine plus it lets me use Paint.net:

The cute FileHippo mouse just opened up its eyes and informed me that CCleaner has been updated.

@CSGalloway

Here is the link to the programme I promised U. Hope it is helpful.

http://www.changedetection.com/help-general.html#h...

There is a little bit of work to do to set it up but the rewards are many.

I do not have any programmes installed (File Hippo etc) that search for cosmetic/bug fix updates.

With the exception of my anti virus definitions I have all programme updaters and automatic update downloaders/installers disabled or have removed via the registry.

I do not use this service for anything Microsoft. Microsoft updates are set to inform me when downloads are available. This method ensures I have total control over what is installed on my PC & makes life very easy when repairing updates that go "pearshaped".
