Oops!! I think I have partly answered my following question. The rule listed at the bottom of the scan page is "suggested"--it doesn't apply until I save it.

So now I have a new one: Should I follow the suggestion to save the suggested rule and why?
========

On the scan page there is (1) rule indicated at the bottom:
Rule name: Default Windows Restore Backup Folder
Rule: C\I386

I did not enter this rule and it seems impossible to delete it.

Yet on the setup page where you enter rules this one is not listed.

Listed correctly on the setup page is another rule that I did enter concerning an old program.

That rule that I did create is followed during scans, yet it does not appear at the bottom of the scan page. Only appearing there is the tule I did not create and can not delete or find in the rule creation area.

???????

Not "partly". It's true - it's a suggested rule, to avoid showing what's in the standard backup folder.

And since these spotted programs are in the backup file they are not in actual use and thus even though outdated pose no security danger. Right? And removing them could in theory create a problem if the backups were ever needed?

In theory, I suppose. IRL, most of us ignore the folder, even the more security conscious.
