I installed security updates for Windows XP and now have a msg from Secunia PSI stating "This installation of Microsoft Internet Explorer 8.x is insecure and potentially exposes your system to security threats!"

I have run updates again but there are no security updates available at this time. Should I not use IE8 at all until this issue is patched?

My computer is working fine; no problems since the installation but I am concerned about using IE8.x while it's being reported as being insecure.

I have rescanned my computer since the security update was installed.

Hi debbied 1958 & welcome to the Forum

Secunia has issued a advisory--SA 38416 regarding IE8. At this
time IR8 is as secure as you can make it if you have
applied all updates as you indicated. Speculation is that M$ will
probably not issue any more patches but rather release IE9 later
this year. One of our most respected members ,Maurice Joyce, who is
a Dedicated Contributor uses IE8 only & has not reported any problems.

I nor any one else can tell you with 100% certainty which browser to use.
At some point any browser will become insecure. That's why it's important
to use the PSI on a regular(daily?) basis to reveal vulnerabilities &
apply the necessary patches.

Hope this helps.
