The Secunia software produced a link to download this file...

jre-6u19-windows-i586-s.exe

while the Java website produced a link to download this ...

jre-6u19-windows-i586.exe

The 2 files are of different size. What's the difference?

It looks like it is pointing to Java SE.

Do U really want Java SE? A home user normally requires JRE.

The link to JRE is here:

http://www.java.com/en/download/manual.jsp

U have not said if U are using a 32 or 64 Bit system - the link above gives both.

Maurice.

So the filename with the appended "-s" is the plain JRE version.
Now I understand.
thanks

To be honest not really sure - they both looked they were pointing to Java SE - I assumed one was 32 bit & the other 64 which do tend to be large in size.

As I said, if U want the plain JRE I would use the link I sent U to be sure.

If happy, U may wish to close this thread to prevent U & I getting more posts on the subject - it is confusing & hopefully Secunia will indicate tomorrow why they are using that link to update

Hi,

The update link should now supply the normal JRE version. Thank you for pointing out this problem.

I've always found the most hassle free download from FileHippo which is here: http://www.filehippo.com/download_jre_32/
