It seems odd to tie the graph rendering for a security vulnerability detection product into what is fast becoming best way to get a compromised machine: Adobe Flash.

Are there plans to render these graphs in some other fashion?

Last edited on 7th Apr, 2010 09:07 Hi,

We didn't choose Flash to encourage installation of insecure software, but Flash comes pre-installed on most home machines today. For this reason, it could be considered the most "widespread" tool, and it wouldn't introduce some strange dependency to the PSI.

The PSI can, of course, be used entirely without flash.
Hope this helps.

Doesn't Flash 6 come with XP though, while PSI requires Flash 8+? Or are you referring to OEM builds?

Hi,

No, flash doesn't come with XP (Or Vista/7), and Flash six is long since End-Of-Life. Flash is a third-party product, currently owned and developed by Adobe. It's chosen because many users choose to install it (and many browsers can install it automatically). In this way, without having to write a graphics framework from scratch, we can deliver graphics that will work for the absolute majority of our users. If you don't have flash already, there should be no need to install it (unless you really want the graphs).

hope this helps.
