I have tried to download the 64-bit version of this new program, but I can't get the security alert from Secunia to go away. Why? (Note: I've done the rescan after the Apple iTunes download.) Can anyone shed some light on this? Thank you.

Hi,

Could I ask you to try using Apple's internal product updater? Does this give different results?

I have tried the downkload for both iTunes and Apple Quicktime several times and still get the ALERT message. So I deleted both of these programmes; and still get the ALERT message.
Also I am confused by the STATUS message which says I am 2% better than average for those having Secunia PSI installed; but am 1% worse than those who DO NOT have PSI. How can that be?

Computer_Dummy needs help.

I have down loaded this program so many times I lost count. I believe the problem is the path that Secunia is using to check the program. i do not believe this is the current program path. My itunes is up to date as verified by help, about itunes version 9.1.0.79. So I don't know what else to do. I deleted the itunes folder from C:\iTunes and reran the test. The path became a link to the recycle bin. In the meantime I open itunes and it worked fine.

Hope you understand what I am saying.

Program Files (x86)These are your 32 Bit Programmes

Click on Program Files - Have U got an Itunes entry in there?

OK - U can run the 32 Bit version.

U cannot answer Emil's question but he will pick this up.

http://www.filehippo.com/download_itunes_32/

Redownload & reinstall from this link.

Does that solve it?

If not try the updater from within the updated programme.

Reboot & do a full PSI rescan. If a vulnerability remains what is the path?

Technical details about this installation of Sun Java JRE 1.5.x / 5.x, you can use this information to determine why the Secunia PSI detected the program and the security state of it.

Version Detected:
5.0.110.3

Installation Path:
C:\Program Files\Java\jre1.5.0_11\bin\java.exe

Last Inspection of Program:

I understand this is not the Apple iTune problem which started this discussion. However, as previously stated, the Apple programmes have been deleted from my computer. This is one of the remedial actions recommended. The Sun Java advisory noted above is yet another example of Secunia advisories/alerts for programmes tha have been deleted.
As my user name suggests I am not a computer expert; but I am concerned about security on my computer. Particuilarly those things that do not appear to make sense, or appear logical.
I refer again to my previous enquirey about the comparison to non Secunia users. I.E, my system is 2% worse. Surely this is saying it's better not to be a Secunia user,

Computer_Dummy.

OK - Firstly Java.

U have the wrong version installed. The latest version is Java(TM)6 Update 20.

The first thing to do is go to Control Panel>click on Add/Remove and look for any entries starting with:

Java (TM)
JRE
JSE

Remove any found one at a time. Complete a full rescan with PSI and there should be no vulnerabilities showing for Java.

The latest version to install is here:
http://www.java.com/en/download/ie_manual.jsp?loca...

Before U install it do U really need Java? This (latest) version has also got a flaw which is subject to much debate on the Forum of juggling with plug ins etc.

Windows does NOT require Java to work. Until the current vulnerability situation is clarified I would strongly advise NOT to have Java on your PC.

If U attempt something that requires Java a pop up will appear on your screen. I assume U are using Secunia PSI rather than OSI because OSI does require Java.

If U never see the warning pop up (very likely) then U do not want Java install anyway in which case never install it.

I do not want to make this post too long. Let me know how U get on & we can then kill off Apple ITunes.

Thank U for the information.

So that I know U are absolutely safe please confirm U have run a full scan & Secunia have given U a clean bill of health with Java.

Now on to Apple products.

If Quicktime & ITunes are not in Control Panel>Add/Remove U have somehow "lost" the uninstaller. I do not use these products but they can be easily removed.

Firstly,try this:

Windows Installer Cleanup Utility
=======================
Although U will see items listed this tool should NOT be used to remove any part of Microsoft Office 2007.

If a programme is installed using Windows Installer it can be removed by using the Microsoft Cleanup Utility.

Download it from here:

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/290301

Once downloaded, open the programme & scroll up & down looking for any entries that refer to Quicktime or ITunes.

If found, highlight each item (one at a time) & click the remove button (bottom right)

When they are all removed Reboot then complete a full rescan with PSI.

If U cannot find any entries do not worry there is another method we can employ.

If U did find them the latest PSI scan should reveal that all the vulnerabilities U had are history.

Please confirm this is the case or whether U require the ultimate solution to clearing Apple.
