As far as I know I can still get updates to MPlayer. So, why is it End-of-Life?

Hi

You should consider updating to Mplayer 1.x instead of using the old 0.x branch

When vendors bundle 3rd party libraries and programs in their own program, they are responsible for updating all components to avoid security issues.

You could contact Format Factory and let them know they use a outdated (and most likely insecure) version of mplayer.
