No doubt this is Google's fault (!) but I am having problems with PSI at present in relation to Google Earth. First, PSI does not recognise the current (as of 9 Feb) version of Google Earth; it insists that it is Version 5, when the info in the program says it is Version 6. Second, the automatic update feature of PSI downloads the standard package off the Google web page INCLUDING ITS DEFAULTS!! This means that Google Chrome gets installed and replaces my default browser. Aargh!
Any chance of Secunia fixing this soon?

Version 6 is in BETA. Secunia does not monitor BETA programmes.

The latest stable version is 5.2.1.1588

Thanks to you both for the prompt replies, and especially for the link to other people with similar problems, but I'm not out of the woods yet. I have (re-)installed the latest stable software 5.2.1.1588, but PSI insists that I need version 6, which is still beta! So it's got its knickers well and truly in a twist, because it does not detect the beta version 6! And there is still the problem of PSI downloading the full package with Chrome etc. which is quite wrong.
I guess that I (along with everyone else using the free version) will just have to put up with it until Secunia and Google sort the mess out. In the meantime I have just told PSI to ignore Google Earth. I've got better things to do with my time than chase false alarms.

Can U give the path PSI is talking about?
FINDING A FILE PATH - PSI VERSION 2

From the DASHBOARD page click on SCAN RESULTS.

1. This will list all your programmes with a + to the left of each one.
2. Click the + sign next to the item that U want help with.
3. This will reveal the path under DETECTED INSTANCES.
4. Highlight it then copy (CTRL+C) then paste (CTRL+V)) that path back to the Forum.

ALL OTHER PSI VERSIONS

To locate the exact file that the Secunia PSI has detected, use or switch to the ADVANCED interface, then :

1 Click on the + sign of the programme to "expand' it.
2 Click on Technical Details in the Toolbox to see the installation path of the detected file. (Copy (CTRL+C) & paste (CTRL+V)) the Installation Path of the file back to the Forum.

Sorry Maurice, but I'm afraid I can't! When I said I told PSI to ignore Google Earth, I meant exactly that. Using the manual I burrowed down until I got to the ignore instructions (on page 10) and as a result PSI deleted all of its references to the various modules concerned, which are the ones you want, I imagine. I don't know whether this is a permanent state of affairs, or if I reinstall Google Earth PSI will recognise it again and reinstate the references.

Belay that last message! I just looked in the "ignore rules" bit and found the info you requested (for 5.2.1.1588) squirrelled away there:

C:\Users\Simon\AppData\Local\Temp\._msige52\progra m files\Google\Google Earth\client\googleearth.exe
C:\Program Files\Google\Google Earth\client\googleearth.exe
C:\Program Files\Google\Google Earth\plugin\geplugin.exe
C:\Users\Simon\AppData\Local\Temp\._msige52\progra m files\Google\Google Earth\plugin\geplugin.exe
C:\Windows\Temp\._msige52\program files\Google\Google Earth\client\googleearth.exe
C:\Windows\Temp\._msige52\program files\Google\Google Earth\plugin\geplugin.exe

Do you want me to reinstall beta 6 and give you the path names that gives me after a scan?

Cheers
Simon

PSI should not be deleting anything. If U have ignored it then it is still on your system but will not be reported on by PSI.

To check Open PSI>Dashboard>Configuration>Settings>click the Ignore rule tab - it should be in there.

Just untick (remove the check mark) from the programme & complete a rescan & it will reveal itself again.

Simon,
U really should take all of those entries out of the Ignore Area.

Now do a full rescan.

What are the paths to any that are showing as vulnerable (insecure) or End of Life?

OK - two things to note here. First, as soon as I remove the six items from the ignore list, the scan results changes to 1 item (Google Earth: End of Life) and the same six file paths are flagged up. Secondly, when I do either a program rescan or a full rescan (it makes no difference) I get the same result: 1 item, Google Earth, End of Life. There are no differences in what is flagged up, and every pathname specifies version 5.2.1.1588. So I am pretty certain I have the same situation that has been flagged up in the "End of Life" thread.
Plus, of course, the issue about the update installed by "Install solution" clobbering my browser by installing Google Chrome.
Hope that clarifies things.

Simon,
OK - I will ask Secunia to look at this thread as well so that U can control the imput.

I wouls leave them out of the Ignore area. Secunia may ask for a verbose log or, if necessary, change their database rule.

Simon,
Seen your other update.

If all your problems are now resolved could U please lock (Accept) the thread. This will prevent us both from receiving update emails from "tag on" posts.
