This is a thread continuing one that I posted earlier that has now been locked.

While updating Secunia PSI the update included uninstalling the current program. The error message says there are parts of the program that it could not uninstall & I have to do it manually before the new install can occur.

As posted to me earlier, I have checked C:\Program Files & there are no Secunia folders listed.

What next?

Use the Windows search facility.

Keywords could be "Secunia" & "PSI"

Did that. The only file found was PSI mf.sys (a driver?). Deleting it did not help.

What I was able to do was install an old copy of PSI called PSI(RCI) that I had a copy of from Jan. 2008 (PSISetup.exe). The links in that program for updating PSI do not work anymore. And I still get any error message when I try to download PSI from the website that the old cpoy of PSI has not been entirely removed.

Try going here:

http://secunia.com/vulnerability_scanning/personal...

Use the clearly marked download of the older version. Does that successfully install version 1.5?

Have U got PSI V 1.5 installed?

RoboForm is a totally different programme. If that is giving U grief which one are U using?

Sorry about the confusion. I am dealing with two forums & got the programs & forums reversed.

I cannot install the older copy of Secunia PSI that is on the website. I get the same error message as I do when I try to install the newest version, "The Secunia PSI uninstaller was unable to remove one or more previous versions of the program from the computer. Please try to remove them manually & then restart the Secunia PSI installer."

Have not been able to do that.

What I was able to do was install an old copy of PSI called PSI(RCI) that I had a copy of from Jan. 2008 (PSISetup.exe) when I first started using PSI. The version is 0.9.0.0. I tried to update this version but the update link in this version does not work anymore.

Thank you.

Try this - the folders to look for are called Secunia.
CLEARING UP LEFTOVERS FROM AN UNINSTALL USING THE REGISTRY

Clearing up any dross that may remain in the Registry after an uninstall is a fairly simple affair.

IT IS IMPORTANT U FOLLOW THE INSTRUCTIONS TO THE LETTER. TINKERING IN THE REGISTRY BEYOND THE INSTRUCTIONS GIVEN BELOW AND GETTING IT WRONG CAN,IN CERTAIN CIRCUMSTANCES, CAUSE A SEVERE LOSS OF HUMOUR AFTER A RESTART AND WINDOWS REFUSES TO BOOT! IT IS WRITTEN FOR A COMPLETE NOVICE USER.

1. Opening REGEDIT

a. XP Users - Go to Start>Run>in the box that appears type regedit>click OK on the box>U are now in the Registry.
b. Vista & Windows 7 Users - Click Start>typeregeditin the search box>REGEDIT.EXE will appear at the top of the list>click it>from the prompt allow the programme to run>U are now in the Registry.

2. Finding the correct key to modify - it is the same procedure for ALL versions of Windows.

a.Look in the LEFT pane for the key HKEY_CURRENT_USER>expand the key by clicking on the arrow to the left.

c.Look for SOFTWARE>expand that key by clicking the arrow. All the programmes installed (and no doubt many more U thought U had uninstalled) on the PC are exposed.

LEFT click on the folder of the programme U wish to remove. When U click on any key it is normal that the "nitty gritty" elements of that folder are exposed in the right hand pane for U to double check that is the programme U wish to remove.
Once satisfied U have found the data RIGHT click the folder in the LEFT pane & delete.

Now navigate to key HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE>expand to SOFTWARE & repeat the procedure U have just done.

It is worth spending a bit of time with these two keys as there could be other dross in there. JUST BE VERY CAREFUL & ONLY REMOVE PROGRAMMES U ARE ABSOLUTELY SURE ARE NO LONGER INSTALLED ON YOUR PC. IF UNSURE ASK BEFORE DELETING.

If U have removed extra dross have U cleared it from both HKEY areas? U should not be alarmed if some programmes are in one HKEY & not in the other.

If happy, exit the registry by clicking the red X (top right).

Reboot.

Did not correct problem. I deleted one entry for Secunia in each registry folder as you directed. I also uninstalled my old version v0.9.0.0. I rebooted. I double checked that there were no new Secunia folder in the registry. I still get the error codes & Secunia will not install.

I could send you pictures of the error codes if that will help if attachments can be sent in this forum.

Thank you for your help. Any other ideas.

Printed screen of my error codes when I try to update Secunia.

Imageshack lists these 2 hotlinks of my image for forums:

[URL=http://img828.imageshack.us/i/secuniaerror.jpg/][I...

or

[url=http://img828.imageshack.us/i/secuniaerror.jpg/][i...

This one for emails:

http://img828.imageshack.us/i/secuniaerror.jpg/

this code for websites:

<a href="http://img828.imageshack.us/i/secuniaerror.jpg/" target="_blank"><img src="http://img828.imageshack.us/img828/8770/secuniaerr..." border="0"/></a>

Since I am not sure if I am doing this right as I have never done it before so no feedback on what the difference is in the codes and how they work I have sent them all

Hi,

Is there any version of the PSI listen on Add/Remove?
Try to delete it from there.

Did you delete the folder in Program Files before using the windows uninstaller?

hope this helps.

There is no version of PSI listed in add/remove programs.

This prroblem accurred when Secunia PSI tried to update itself, indicated it had to uninstall the old version first, then gave me an error message that it could not uninstall the entire old version.

Cannot find the piece it could not uninstall.

Go back to the Registry as per my post above

Once in the Registry at the top U will see EDIT>click that & from the dropdown box U will see FIND>select that>in the box provided type SECUNIA>click FIND

If It finds anything make a note of it then click FIND NEXT

keep doing that until it tells U the search is complete.

Exit the Registry.

How many instances of SECUNIA are there?

My understanding is that U cannot find any entries for Secunia or PSI in:

1. Control Panel>add/remove

2. A full search of the C drive on your PC (including hidden folders)

3. Entries in HKEY_CURRENT_USER & HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE

4. By using the registry search facility nothing was reported having requested a search using SECUNIA or PSI as a parameter

Although something should have been found on the searches made have U doubled checked:

1. The Recycle Bin?

2. That U are not storing any old backup copies of PSI in some folders - My documents? My downloads?

3. Dependant on which version U are using that no elements of PSI are stored or maintained by RoboForm?
