PSI does not show up in MS add/remove programs or in Revo uninstaller. I need to remove it to install the newest version. I tried to do it manually but was unable to delete the program files/PSIexe. dated 12/22/2010. Access to those files is denied.

Help, please. Thanks.

There should have been an uninstall.exe in the folder. If access is denied, did you try to remove them in safe mode?

@ cstortion

When you download the latest PSI to your desktop then want to install-it, the program will detect and remove the previous version automatically.
Good luck.

There is no uninstallexe. in any of the Secunia files that I have. When I try to load the new program from setup, the old won't be removed. Now what?

Are U saying U have used Windows Explorer & there is no folder for Secunia?

If U found the folder what files remain in it?

@sctortion

Try to find a restore point dating before you made a manual deletion, then download and install the new version.

Good luck

Maurice, if you send me your email address I'll send you a screen-shot of what's in the program files. I would attach it to this reply but I don't know how.

Bottom line, there's no uninstall files in the program files and the installer for the newest program won't remove the old one. The program is obviously corrupted. Is there a way to repair it and then uninstall it?

Thanks,

Cary

I can't seem to identify the correct link on the Image-Shack site. Bear with me.

This post is long but the procedure is easy. If need be do a trial run to find SECUNIA before deleting it.

CLEARING UP LEFTOVERS FROM AN UNINSTALL USING THE REGISTRY

Clearing up any dross that may remain in the Registry after an uninstall is a fairly simple affair.

IT IS IMPORTANT U FOLLOW THE INSTRUCTIONS TO THE LETTER. TINKERING IN THE REGISTRY BEYOND THE INSTRUCTIONS GIVEN BELOW AND GETTING IT WRONG CAN,IN CERTAIN CIRCUMSTANCES, CAUSE A SEVERE LOSS OF HUMOUR AFTER A RESTART AND WINDOWS REFUSES TO BOOT! IT IS WRITTEN FOR A COMPLETE NOVICE USER.

1. Opening REGEDIT

a. XP Users - Go to Start>Run>in the box that appears type regedit>click OK on the box>U are now in the Registry.
b. Vista & Windows 7 Users - Click Start>type regedit in the search box>REGEDIT.EXE will appear at the top of the list>click it>from the prompt allow the programme to run>U are now in the Registry.

2. Finding the correct key to modify - it is the same procedure for ALL versions of Windows.

a.Look in the LEFT pane for the key HKEY_CURRENT_USER>expand the key by clicking on the arrow (or + sign) to the left.

c.Look for SOFTWARE>expand that key by clicking the arrow. All the programmes installed (and no doubt many more U thought U had uninstalled) on the PC are exposed.

LEFT click on the SECUNIA folder. When U click on any key it is normal that the "nitty gritty" elements of that folder are exposed in the right hand pane for U to double check that is the programme U wish to remove.
Once satisfied U have found the data RIGHT click the SECUNIA folder in the LEFT pane & delete.

Now navigate to key HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE>expand to SOFTWARE & repeat the procedure U have just done.

It is worth spending a bit of time with these two keys as there could be other dross in there. JUST BE VERY CAREFUL & ONLY REMOVE PROGRAMMES U ARE ABSOLUTELY SURE ARE NO LONGER INSTALLED ON YOUR PC. IF UNSURE ASK BEFORE DELETING.

If U have removed extra dross have U cleared it from both HKEY areas? U should not be alarmed if some programmes are in one HKEY & not in the other.

If happy, exit the registry by clicking the red X (top right).

Reboot.

Before doing anything, I thought to try loading Secunia for one last time. Guess what? It's working. Problem solved. Thanks.

Cary,
Good news - please U are all fix up. If U get stuck in the future & wish to take a look in the registry use the info I gave U. IT IS 100% SAFE if U stick to the script.

If all your problems are now resolved could U please lock (Accept) the thread. This will prevent us both from receiving update emails from "tag on" posts or I can lock it for you.
