Just a simple question:
When answering "Yes" to upgrade PSI to a new version the bloody update function displays a window "Always on top" saying "removing previous blah-blah".

Who is the less than stellar developer that created this?

The update takes forever (even longer than patching Win7 to SP1) and you can not nuke, ie push it to the background, the annoying update window.

Secunia, a company with a good standing security wise, what have you been smoking?

Best regards to the community:

Hi OldAndTyred. I just installed '3002' and didn't experience what you told us. The screen telling that an older version is detected and will be uninstalled has been there in all previous versions as far as I can remember and was visible on the screen for only a few seconds. The installation was performed in a 'flash'. I didn't observe any problems.

I think there is an issue certainly with Windows 7 SP1.

My tests support what @oldandtired describes.

Even if U abort the PSI update & revert to the programme uninstaller the "pesky" little box that indicates an uninstall is in progress will not go away.

The only way to shift it is a reboot.

My advice to Windows 7 users is to uninstall the old version using the programme uninstaller & then complete a clean install from here:

http://secunia.com/vulnerability_scanning/personal

This link installs version 2.0.0.3002 however there is another very minor bug in that by using the "about" feature it indicates U have version 2.0.0.3001. Secunia are aware of the version number error.

Hope this helps.

Thx for the reply Kip!

My post was kind of tounge-in-cheek, hence the missing smilies :-)
(correct spelling, dunno, english is not my native lang)

Cant check the version atm because the "Removing Previous..." is still running, been doing so for nearly to hours now...and being an old bastard I refuse to reboot :-)

everything else is working fine, everything is patched, I'm running WinPatrol, AV, AM, blockers, updating agents...the works.

PSI (an software par exellence imho) runs just great between updates, but the upgrade thing is a nightmare.

Cheers

Cheers folks!

Did a reboot and the AlwaysOnTop-driving-me-nuts windows went away, but me thinks me having a blonde moment/brain fart :-) .....how do I check the build/minor version of PSI? The Dashboard says v.2.0?

Apologies to the community for my noise on the board

Right click on the Tasktray icon>about

It will read 2.0.0.3001 but it is really version 2.0.0.3002 due to an acknowledged Secunia error.

Edit: I have sent Secunia a bug report on the issue U raised.

I can't install the new version in Windows XP Or Windows 7. In Windows 7 it just hangs in the uninstalling mode. In Window XP it looks like it is removing the old program but will not install the new program. Thanks for the heads up. With your help, Secunia will fix the bug in the program. Thanks

Secunia have now confirmed they have created a bug report for this problem.

Hi,

This should have been fixed, or at least improved, with the latest version (3003). You can get it here: ftp://ftp.secunia.com/PSISetup.exe

Hope this helps.

Just tested 3003 (ftp://ftp.secunia.com/PSISetup.exe), and it doesn't fix the issue for me.
The small "Uninstalling Previous Secunia PSI - Please Wait" Window still doesn't disappear..
I had 3002 installed (uninstalled 3001 manually) in a custom path. Using W7 SP1 x64.

Btw: No need to reboot the machine. Killing "uninstall.exe" closes the window.

It is not fixed & I have submitted a new bug report. What U are experiencing now is an attempt which does cure certain aspects but not the complete package.

A Secunia Official is looking into it.

I have sent numerous bug reports to Secunia particularly on these issues.

1. The manual scan Stop/Start buttons were not working correctly.

2. Version 2.0.0.3002 - this update did not show the correct version number when users checked the Tasktray icon "about" feature.

3. An information "balloon" appeared above the Tasktray icon at the start of any type of scan.

All these bugs have been fixed. To take advantage of these fixes U should update to version 2.0.0.3003 from here:

http://secunia.com/vulnerability_scanning/personal...

There is another bug that I think only affects Windows 7,Windows 7 SP1 (possible that IE9 is involved). The bug prevents PSI from auto uninstalling an older version before reinstalling the new.

This should have been fixed by version 2.0.0.3003 but is under reinvestigation by Secunia after numerous users have reported it as an ongoing problem.

On that basis,if Windows 7 users want to update to the latest version I recommend this method:

1. Right click Start>Open Windows Explorer>C>Program Files>(Program Files (x86) if using a 64 Bit System))>Secunia>PSI - now activate the uninstaller from the icon U can see.

2. Install the new version from the link above.

I hope this helps. Tag On posts have started/could confuse the issues therefore I have locked this thread. If a new bug appears could U please create a new one.
