PSI scans MS Excel 2003 SP3 running on Windows XP Pro SP3 as insecure. The Secunia PSI recommended patch is: "Security Update for Microsoft Office Excel 2003 (KB958436)" issued Dec 9, 2008. (http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?Fa...) This patch states: "Supported Operating Systems: Windows 2000 Service Pack 4; Windows Server 2003 Service Pack 1; Windows Vista; Windows XP Service Pack 2". This information was pasted from this web site. My operating system is Windows XP SP3. XP SP3 is a NON supported operating system and Microsoft Update will not update nor will the downloaded office2003-KB958436-FullFile-ENU.exe patch install. The Microsoft Security Bulletin MS08-074 - Critical does not mention operating systems at all which is a big mistake on Microsoft's part. However, the fact that there is not an available patch at this time should be reflected in Secunia PSIs database.

Please fix this error Secunia. Error time: 9 days

I am also having a similar problem however I have manually downloaded the file. When the file is run and passed the 'accept screen' it takes a long time before any window appears. A short time latter an error window advises "The expected version of the product was not found on your system". I run XP SP2, Excel 2003 SP3 (11.8231.8221). I have not as yet loaded Office 2003 SP3 due to ongoing problems in the service pack so assume the SP3 tag on Excel is from earlier update.

I am under the impression that I am being force to upgrade (ha ha) to the full SP3 version.

I have the same problem with Word 2003 SP3.

Would someone like to comment.
