RSA 2011 round-up: Secunia presentation, pictures, and media interviews

11:55 CET, 25th February 2011 By Secunia.

We attended another highly successful RSA Conference in San Francisco this year from 14th -18th February. In addition to assisting our customers, analysts, and fellow attendees who visited the Secunia booth, we also took part in a number of media/conference activities at RSA. Here is a brief round-up.

Presentation to RSA attendees:

The presentation ”The Fundamental Failures of End-point Security” by Stefan Frei, Secunia’s Research Analyst Director was extremely well received by attendees, fuelling lots of positive feedback and interesting questions. Attendees obtained key insights regarding the threats posed by vulnerabilities in third-party programs, and the strategies needed to ensure that all the programs are patched and up-to-date.

Key learning points:
  • Explore the fundamental failings of endpoint security that continue to turn most Internet users (corporate and private) into easy prey for cybercriminals
  • Gain a unique insight into the exposure of endpoint systems using data from over three million users of the Secunia Personal Software Inspector (PSI)
  • Understand the security risks posed by diverse software portfolios on endpoints, and gain awareness about the origins of vulnerability threats
  • Find out why Operating Systems (OS) and Microsoft products are no longer the primary attack vectors and learn how to identify and apply missing patches for ‘all’ programs

The main themes covered by the other speakers at RSA included Internet privacy, cloud investigations and forensics, and the misconceptions of security. Along with Secunia’s presentation they all highlighted an increasingly complex and ever-changing threat landscape, and the associated challenges for risk management.

  • Thomas Kristensen, Secunia’s CSO was interviewed by Bank Info Security, focusing on the topic of timely updating of vulnerable programs on home PC's, and why securing PC's is important for both consumers and companies. View the video here.
  • Thomas Kristensen, Secunia’s CSO was interviewed by Helpnet, on Secunia's key role in the area of Vulnerability Research and how the company differentiates itself from its competitors. View the video here.
  • Stefan Frei, Secunia’s Research Analyst Director was interviewed by Helpnet, on the topic of why the threats from third-party software is a matter of higher concern than those from Microsoft's products. View the video here.

In case you could not make RSA this year, we hope that this round-up will provide you with a valuable ’snapshot’ of the conference. We are already looking forward to next year’s RSA.
